We are convinced, we of "Terreumbre", that good food together with good wine, is a great gift.....
Here between Umbria and Tuscany, this combination is unconsciously deep-rooted.
Ours is plain food, country food, often influenced by the presence of the Lake, made of few and simple ingredients.
There are many restaurants and trattorias in our area, more or less nearby "Poggio del Sole" and "Poggio Verde". Because of this we would like to suggest some of those we particularly like. There are many others to choose from.
Don't expect the restaurants to be elegant or costly. We think rather, that a simple family atmosphere makes an evening more memorable than another ostentatious and elegant.
Believe us, we have no personal interest in making these recommendations to you.
We only want to make your stay with us more pleasant in the hope that you will want to return to one or other of our two "Poggios".

Il Grifo is in the middle of Sanfatucchio across the road from the church.
It was previously the village bar but has been transformed into a Bar, Trattoria and Pizzeria for those people who really enjoy their food.
The dishes are cooked in the local way, simply but very well done, particularly local game, mushrooms and truffles when in season.
There is a room which displays objects of interest from the past lives in people' s houses and farm labourers.
Very pleasant atmosphere and very reasonable prices.

This is a Gastronomic "club".
It is open only Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings; has a fixed menu served leisurely each evening.
It offers seasonal food, creations of the fantasy of Riccardo the cook and his wife, Mariella.
The atmosphere is warm and rustic, antique signs and numerous rustic tools and implements adorn the walls, the fire, the grappa trolley (be careful, especially of the chilli-pepper/peperoncino!!).
This makes a very "particular" evening.
Advance booking is essential.

A comfortable restaurant in the main road of the historical centre, with a carefully styled atmosphere and attentive service.
The cook, for the most part, draws upon the resources of the area, herbs etc., and specialises in Freshwater fish from the Lake.
They don't avoid meats and anti-pastas of locally cured products.
Each dish is carefully presented and finely proportioned.
Their menu is usually a lighter and more refined version of the (occasionally heavier) local tradition.
The cook uses mainly local ingredients.
They have a good selection of local and national wines.

Converted from the 'cantina' of an old palace in the centre of Castiglione del Lago, this is a wine-bar which also provides food.
You can drink the fine wines while sampling the taste of local products in the form of "starters", cheeses, salami and others.
The well cooked dishes are produced in the local way from ingredients in season.
There are tables inside and outside and it will stay open late.

The menu, described as traditionally Tuscan, is usually enriched with a pinch of fantasy.
The warm reception, for some "over the top", of Luana and Roberto combines a rustic and at the same time refined atmosphere to make this restaurant a "choice" particularly suited for a tete a tete dinner.

Above the main square and besides the Church, this little restaurant strikes you for the considered atmosphere, warm and welcoming, for the well-chosen fittings, your candle-light dinner, and in the summer their little terrace.
Their menu draws on local traditions, the land and the lake, explained and renamed in long words.
Their choice of wines is ample and well-cared for.

The owners hand-make their own pasta; they go into the countryside and the woods to gather herbs, salad leaves, wild green for cooking, mushrooms, etc.
The meat used also comes from game and free-range animals.
In the summer you can eat outside on the terrace, in a candle-light atmosphere.
They also serve good pizzas.

It is in the old centre of Cortona down the steep Via Ghibellina.
It has been restored with great care from humble beginnings by the typically Tuscan host.
The menu is typified by dishes cooked in the Tuscan way with a great choice of wine, cheese and the best cuts of local meat.

Pane e Vino is in the central piazza in Cortona in front of the Signorelli Theatre. It is a very pleasant 'taverna' dedicated to providing gastronomic delights (il Nettare di Bacco).
This is not a typical restaurant.
First you choose a fine wine and then something ideally suited to accompany the wine from the choice of fine meats, soups and other delicacies.
Several Kilometres further north is an authentic Fiorentine steak restaurant..
"Da Muzzicone"

Roughly half an hour away by car, in the handsome Medieval town of Castiglionen Fiorentino, is a place famous for the quality of the meat it prepares.
Only the adult cow is used, personally tenderised by Signor Mozzicone, and placed in full view of the restaurant on a huge chopping block.
From the kitchen come "antipasti" in the form of Tuscan first courses, crostini, salami, cheese; but above all these is THE Fiorentine.
The Tuscan T-bone beefsteak of one or two kilos (2-4 pounds avoirpois), ready to be cut from the side of the beef and placet on the grill in full view of the diners.
It arrives at the table cut from the bone and segmented having been smeared with oil and rosmary, salt and pepper.
Vegetarian Beware!
